Local walks
We are surrounded by over 2,000 acres of woodland, with excellent walks and cycle routes for all abilities, from buggy-friendly paths to longer routes for keen walkers, with access to footpaths and bridleways and maps provided. Nearby Whitesheet Hill offers expansive walks and views across the Downs. Several well-regarded pubs are within a 10-mile drive, including Bradley Hare, the White Lion (also reachable via a scenic walk), and the Bell and Crown.
Things to do
There’s plenty to explore nearby, from world-class gardens and historic houses to art, shopping and family days out. Highlights include Stourhead House and Gardens, the beautifully designed landscapes at The Newt in Somerset, contemporary art, gardens and dining at Hauser & Wirth, and the iconic stately home and safari experience at Longleat. Historic Wilton House and Stonehenge are both within easy reach, as are Haynes Motor Museum, Kilver Court, and Clarks Village for shopping days out.
Places to visit
You’re well placed for exploring some of the West Country’s most characterful towns and historic cities. Nearby Salisbury (around 40 minutes) is home to its magnificent cathedral and the surrounding plains, while Sherborne (40 minutes) offers a handsome abbey and castle. Elegant Bath (40 minutes) is famed for its Georgian architecture, Roman Baths and Abbey, and charming Shaftesbury (20 minutes) is known for its abbey ruins and traditional Thursday market. Creative Frome (30 minutes) is popular for its independent shops and monthly artisan market, while Mere and Gillingham are just 10–15 minutes away for everyday essentials and supermarkets.
Activies for children
There’s plenty to keep children entertained nearby, from animal encounters and outdoor adventures to easy family days out. Longleat Safari Park offers a full day of fun with its safari drive, gardens, maze and children’s playground, while Wookey Hole Caves and Cheddar Gorge are popular for caves, walks and family-friendly attractions. Younger visitors will enjoy the adventure playground at Wilton House, and there are multi-screen cinemas in Salisbury and Yeovil. Golf courses and a nearby driving range also offer relaxed activities for older children and teens.
